The Ensignia® Learning Content Management System LCMS enables anyone to create, maintain, organise, store, re-use and publish course and assessment content via a standard Web browser.

If you would like to have complete control over your learning content, without needing in-house technical capabilities, Ensignia’s LCMS offers you a sophisticated point-and-click template-based authoring tool.

Content created using the Ensignia® LCMS can be packaged and deployed directly to the integrated Ensignia® Learning Management System or to any other industry-standard LMS that supports SCORM 1.2 for content packaging.

Ensignia® LCMS Key Features and Benefits

This table lists a selection of Ensignia’s key features and benefits.

Feature Benefit
Web-based Content Authoring
Wizard-style authoring using standard Web browser. Makes it easy to for non-technical authors to work directly in the content authoring environment.
Customisable and structured item templates used for content creation. Speeds up the process of content creation, and ensures more consistent and error-free authoring.
Automated generation of intra-object navigation hyperlinks. Links to other sections, pages, resources etc. within a learning object are generated and maintained automatically, reducing hyperlinking errors.
Storage of content separately from layout and format. Allows the same content to be re-used and re-packaged in different ways (e.g. online, print-friendly format, PDF).
Multiple object structure hierarchy levels supported (up to 3 levels for courses and assessments). Allows for large or small learning objects to be created with the appropriate navigation systems for learners.
Concurrent Multi-author Collaboration
Multiple authors can safely work on the same course or assessment at the same time. Enables a team of authors to collaborate on content creation simultaneously.
Item-level real-time locking of content ensures content integrity. The system ensures that only one author can be working on one item at a time without unduly restricting other authors’ activity.
Role-based permissions supporting content creation, maintenance, reviewing. Different users can be given varying levels of permission to limit their ability to modify system content.
Built-in workflow status tagging (e.g. ‘in-progress’, ‘ready for review’, ‘needs attention’) of items supported. Supports the workflow processes involved in creating, reviewing and publishing content.
Historical audit trail of all edits made retained in the database. Enables an administrator to identify who has made which modifications, when.
Learning Object Repository with Version Control
Built-in learning object repository to store and organise content. Makes it easier to store and retrieve a large number of learning resources.
Shared Resources (assets) repository used in developing courses and assessments. Assets (images, audio clips, videos etc.) used in courses and assessments can easily be re-used in different learning objects.
Resources, courses and assessments organised into arbitrary folder hierarchy. Enables content to be organised into a logical hierarchy by authors or administrators for easier management.
Learning objects in the repository can be imported/exported into XML-based package. Allows permanent copies of repository contents to be stored on other media, or for content to be replicated on other instances of Ensignia.
Each historical revision of an item’s contents are retained in the database. Previous versions of an item can be retrieved, compared with the current version, and rolled back.
